In 1948 through 1952, numerous studies were conducted on Lomatium, including the Department of Bacteriology and Chemistry at the University of Utah, Ohio Department of Pediatrics, and at UCLA where the 1951 thesis, “Studies of the Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties in Vitro of Oil Isolated from Leptotaenia Dissecta” was submitted to the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Southern California demonstrating the test-sample Lomatium (aka: Leptotaenia) was equal or superior to the antibiotic drug, Penicillin, for both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
